It never ceases to amaze me what some people will do for beauty. I've done things that aren't necessarily bad, but questionable perhaps. This however, takes the cake. Now, I Lovvvvvvve my pedicures. I treat myself to one at a salon as often as possible, usually once every few months and I do the rest myself. The main reason i still get one at the salon at all is because Ash loves it too and it's funny to sit there and watch her giggle. Plus she loves the massage chairs.
Anyway, imagine going to your favorite salon and getting in your chair and instead of the regular basin, the technician brings a basin of water.........with about 100 fish in it! Yep. Carp to be precise.
They're called garra rufa or "Doctor Fish" and in waters they are native to, food is scarce. So they have learned to live off most anything, including dead skin cells. So you sit with your feet in this warm water and little carps eat the dead skin off your feet. People who have done it are saying they've never had a better pedicure.
Me personally......no thanks. I'll just keep my loofah and pumice stone. But if you can afford $35-45 dollars and wanna spend 15-30 minutes letting fishies eat off of your feet well you just have fun lol. I can't honestly see how this can possibly be sanitary. They do change the water for each customer but fishies still poo in the water and they still ate of someone else's feet ::shudder::.
The salon that came up with this says they are also considering finding a way to make this a full body treatment to assist with things like psoriasis. I suppose nature does alot of other weird things, so maybe it's possible that people with skin disorders could possibly get some relief. If there's an upside to it, at least it's definitely all natural and no chemicals have to be used on the body.
From what I can tell there are only a very few salons that do this, so it's not widespread, but the Salon owner who came up with it hopes it will be soon. What do you think? Would you do it?
